Fleet Week returning to New York City in May

After taking a year off due to budget cuts, Fleet Week is coming back to New York City.

From May 21 through May 27, Navy sailors, Marines and Coast Guard members will dock in Manhattan, along with their vessels.

Nearly 1,500 service members are expected to take part.

The annual event, the city's time-honored celebration of the sea services, was called off last year because of the government shutdown in Washington, D.C.

The week-long celebration has been held nearly every year since 1984.

In addition to public visitation of participating ships and military band concerts, there will be numerous exhibits and military demonstrations throughout the week showcasing the latest technology of the maritime services and the skilled expertise of our service members.
