Police said they have arrested two suspects in the shooting of a man outside of a community center and preschool Thursday afternoon in Newark.

The Newark Police Department reported that Shaquan A. Grant, 30, of Newark, was arrested Friday night on aggravated assault and weapon charges. Rashan Washington, 27, of Newark was also arrested and charged with aggravated assault and multiple weapons offenses.

During the incident Thursday, a 25 year-old East Orange man was shot in the head outside La Casa de Don Pedro at 202 First St., a community center that houses a pre-kindergarten program.

During the shooting, a Camptown school bus was also struck by a bullet as it drove by the area. The bus was carrying students, between the ages of 13 to 16, as well as staff members. They were taken to University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey as a precaution

The students who attend the center, ages 3 and 4, already had been released. However, students at an afterschool program there were about to be released when teachers on the first floor heard shots.
