New Jersey police officer charged in K-9 attack

TOMS RIVER, N.J.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday the arrest of Tuckerton Police Cpl. Justin Cherry. Authorities say he turned himself in on Wednesday.

The Prosecutor's Office says he tried to pull a driver over on Jan. 29, but she kept driving until stopping at the Barnegat Township Municipal Complex, where two officers took her into custody.

Officials say Cherry also followed her to the scene and allowed his police K-9 to attack her "unjustifiably" and then falsified reports to conceal what happened.

His lawyer, Robert Rosenberg, did not immediately return a call Friday.

Cherry is free on $15,000 bail.
