Brooklyn subway platform attack leads to assault arrest

NEW YORK

Surveillance images were released in the attack, which police say show 54-year-old James Showell after he punched Judith Moroney in the face on March 30 as she waited on the southbound platform of the R train at the 4th Avenue-9th Street station.

He then fled on foot.

"I felt like I was seeing stars," she said. "I felt this punch right up here. I was wearing my glasses."

Moroney told Eyewitness News that the attack was completely unprovoked, and that she thought it was the knockout game.

"Then I realized I wasn't knocked out," she said. "It was a surprise attack, and that's what I thought it was."

Showell is now charged with assault.
