That sentiment tonight from a colleague of Basil Paterson - a powerful political ground breaker in New York - at a time when blacks had little power - and so much political ground to cover. Paterson, the father of former New York Gov. David Paterson, died last night in a hospital in Manhattan.
He had many jobs throughout his 87 years playing important political roles for so many City and State officials – but those who knew him best say his main job was opening doors.
So tonight we're thinking of Basil Paterson and his family. We'll have a look back at his life, tonight at 11.
Also at 11, we'll have the latest on the growing tensions in Ukraine, where the top U.S. General in Europe – NATO's Supreme Commander – says that what's happening there right now is a "well-planned and organized" military operation "carried out at the direction of Russia."
Adding to the chaos and tension – are reports that Jews in Ukraine are now being asked to "register," reminding Jews there and around the world of the brutal oppression of Soviet Jewry from a few decades ago.
We'll also have any breaking news of the night, plus Lee Goldberg's AccuWeather forecast, and Rob Powers with the night's sports.
I hope you can join Sade Baderinwa and me, tonight at 11.
