Gregoria Canales-Bonilla is now in police custody after hiding from investigators for the past few days. Police say she crossed the yellow line and crashed into this taxi in Hempstead early Monday morning - killing 24-year-old Alder Perez who was sitting in the back seat.

Eyewitness News spoke with Perez' brother, Wilfido outside of a carwash in Elmont, where the two worked for several years. There, Alder was known as a quiet but hard worker.

"I feel very sad about what happened to my brother, I want to see justice," says Wilfido.

Wilfido says his mother back in Guatemala is aware of what happened, and is devastated.

"I just want them to do justice for the death of my brother," he says.

Police say after Canales-Bonilla crashed into the taxi, and ran away from the scene. She was arrested at her house in Hempstead on Wednesday. The 32-year-old is the mother of five children. Her husband was in court Thursday when she went before a judge.

Canales-Bonilla may face deportation.
