Asbury Park shooting wounds 3, including 1-year old

ASBURY PARK, N.J.

Police say 13 to 15 bullets were fired on the 700 block of Comstock Street in Asbury Park around 7:30 p.m.

The 29-year-old mother and her daughter were innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire, and authorities are investigating if a 19-year-old man who was also struck was the intended target.

The females were both were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with non-life threatening injuries. The baby was hit on the leg beneath a diaper and is still in the hospital, but is expected to be released soon. The mother was treated and released.

The man managed to get himself to the same hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

Resident Kathy Acevedo says she was indoors when the "pop, pop, pop" of gunfire made her dive to the floor for safety. She says children were outside playing when the shooting started.

Police closed off Comstock Street between Sewall and Asbury avenues for the investigation, which is being conducted by the detective bureau and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
