Connecticut traffic stop sparks chase, fire, outage

NEW HAVEN

The fire started when a driver trying to get away from police crashed into a utility pole on Front Street in New Haven just before 2 a.m.

The pole came down and hit a building, setting both the structure and the car on fire.

Crews were working to restore power.

Police were able to pull the suspect from the burning vehicle.

Nobody in the building was injured.

Police say one officer and the suspect were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital to be treated for injuries that are not considered life threatening.
