The woman was walking near Second Avenue and East 93rd Street just before 2:30 p.m. when she was hit apparently by a school bus.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has not been identified. Her body is still under the bus. Six children -- ages 5 to 11 -- were on the bus at the time on the bus and were not injured.
The students were led off the bus and taken to a nearby gym.
