Queens bicyclist, victim in double hit and run, dies

OZONE PARK

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Rockaway Boulevard near 90th Street in Ozone Park.

The 40-year-old victim was hit by a flatbed truck and then a party van.

Police say the investigation revealed that he was sideswiped and struck with the passenger side of the black Mercedes Benz van. As a result of the contact made, he was knocked to the ground and run over by the van.

The van operator momentarily stopped and exited his vehicle, then returned to the van and continued westbound on Rockaway Boulevard, fleeing the scene.

Some people tried to help the man as he lay in the street.

"I ran outside and I asked the guy to try and move his fingers," eyewitness John Anucci said. "I kept yelling, 'move your fingers if you can hear me.' Then he just didn't."

The victim was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, but he passed away early Monday.

There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
