The New York International Auto Show has rolled into the city, opening Friday at the Javits Center.

The auto show has a lot to offer this year, from a number of new models to new trends.

If you are in the market for a new car, it is the country's largest showroom.

Mike Quincy, an automotive writer with Consumer Reports, showed me some of their top picks.

"Kia has been able to do what Nissan, Honda and Toyota took maybe 50 years to do," he said.

The Kia Optima is quickly attracting new customers.

"It takes some substance to outmuscle the folks from Honda and Toyota as the best sedan," Quincy said. "What we loved about the Optima, it's got great styling."

The Chevrolet Cruise is Consumer Reports top pick for a small car. "With the Cruise, you've got a model that is roomy, that is quiet," said Quincy. "You can get the Chevrolet Cruise with lots of safety features..automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, which scores a lot of points with Consumer Reports."

One trend auto analysts like Jessica Caldwell at Edmunds.dot.com is closely watching, is a shift with car buyers from sedans to smaller SUV's.

"I think that's the real beauty of the crossover," she said. "You can put the seats down and all of a sudden you go to a big cargo environment which is unlike a sedan."
