USPS to phase out mail trucks, replace with vans

The USPS is asking automakers to bid on a commercial van to replace the current model.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Put a stamp on it and mail it in; The U.S. Postal Service's fleet of mail trucks are done and are soon to be replaced by the next generation.

The agency asking automakers to bid on a commercial van to replace the current model.

The box trucks will be phased out due to rising maintenance costs and needed cargo space to satisfy the demands of online shoppers.

The new fleet will hit the roads in 2018.
