Deadly chain-reaction pileup near Buffalo
Dozens of vehicles were involved in a pileup in upstate New York.

CHEEKTOWAGA, New York (WABC) -- A massive pileup on I-90 in Buffalo Tuesday afternoon killed at least one person and seriously injured another.

Officials say weather and very low visibility were major factors in the chain-reaction crash involving about three dozen vehicles, including 10 tractor trailers.

It took crews about eight hours to clear the roads and remove people trapped in their cars.

"You can't see a gosh darn thing in front of you," said Katie Wood. "Everything was blurry, there was complete whiteout, right now you can even tell there's complete whiteout, I still can't feel my fingertips."

A handful of others involved in the accident were injured but those injuries are considered minor.

Drivers swerved and spun out as the snow, blowing sideways, made it nearly impossible to see.

Corey Zeiner, who was hauling a load of snow blowers in a box truck, says his brakes locked up as another vehicle slid into his lane. He smashed into a semi-truck.

Stranded drivers bused to a hotel in nearby Cheektowaga.
