NEWARK, N.J. (WABC) -- Police arrested a teacher's aide Friday for physically assaulting a 10-year-old at the 13th Avenue School in Newark.

Reginald K. Dock, 46, of Newark, has been accused of assaulting a special needs student with a leather belt after the student became upset over a test.

According to Newark, N.J., Police Department, a student ran out of his classroom and into a nearby room where two aides tried to calm the student down. Police said that Dock came into the room, removed his leather belt and struck the child about the body several times.

The school informed the child's parent, who called police the next day and filed a complaint against Dock. The school is conducting an internal investigation.

Dock was taken into custody, and charged with assault and child endangerment.
