CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A teenager was caught with a handgun inside his bag at a middle school in Brooklyn Tuesday.

Officials said a 14-year-old boy brought an unloaded 9mm gun, along with two loaded magazines with nine bullets with him inside Gladstone H. Atwell Middle School on Empire Boulevard in Crown Heights.

The boy told officials that he was fighting with other students.

NYPD officers were called to the school and quickly confiscated the weapon.

The education department released a statement about the incident:

"This is profoundly disturbing and we are working in close partnership with NYPD to investigate this incident. There is zero tolerance for weapons of any kind and nothing is more important than the safety of all students and staff. Families will be notified and we are providing additional supports to the school community."

No one was hurt in the incident.
