NEW YORK (WABC) -- The professors are headed back to the classrooms at LIU Brooklyn on Thursday.

The university announced that they are continuing negotiations with the Brooklyn Faculty Union on their contract, but that they would return to teaching their regularly scheduled classes.

Gale Haynes, Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and University Counsel, said, "The union's commitment not to strike during this academic year provides us enough runway to reach a reasonable and fair agreement, while providing our students the ability to continue their studies uninterrupted. That has always been our intention. Mediation is a positive step to that end."

Students had held walkouts and protests in support of their teachers.
