NORTH BERGEN, New Jersey -- Authorities are taking no chances after a written threat to "shoot up" North Bergen High School was found written on a desk.

The school's 2,800 students will be subject to a metal-detector search and students will not be allowed to bring backpacks on the campus Friday.

They had to remove everything from their lockers on Thursday and police dogs swept the building.

Superintendent George Solter tells The Record (http://bit.ly/1jWBExz ) newspaper authorities are looking at a pool of 200 to 300 students who could have written "gonna shoot up the school on 6/6/14."

Solter says the district will use the incident to remind students that the threat, even if it's a joke, carries serious consequences.
