New television show 'Dr. Ken' features doctor/actor
Sandy Kenyon talks to Ken Jeong about his new television show.

Actor Ken Jeong is a doctor AND he plays one on TV.

"Did I mention the doctor is very, very sexy? I didn't have to cuz it's me," he said.

Incredible as it may seem, the star of "Dr. Ken" is still licensed to practice medicine for real in California. His wife is a physician and so are many of his friends.

"For scripts, I'll consult my wife all the time, just ask her: "Does this story read right?" he said. "So it is great to have a resource of friends and family who are physicians to keep things (as tethered) as grounded as possible."

Jeong was a doctor in New Orleans when he won a comedy contest there in 1995. "I was just working as a physician and doing comedy as a hobby -- just doing stand-up as a hobby -- and to be perfectly honest, I was perfectly happy doing that."

Jeong was in his 30s when his breakthrough role came in the hit comedy "Knocked Up." He was working as a doctor in Los Angeles and went on vacation to do the role, when Jeong's wife encouraged him to hang up his real stethoscope for good.

"She was like 'if you don't do this now -- this is what you want to do, this is a passion -- you'll never do it.' And if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be here talking to you," said Jeong.

A supporting role in "The Hangover" films made him a star and now he is building further momentum with his television series.
