Bachelor/Bachelorette host Chris Harrison releases new book
Sandy Kenyon has more.

STATEN ISLAND (WABC) -- Two women vying for the affection for a group of men is a first for "The Bachelorette" - and one of those twists that keeps the series interesting for host Chris Harrison after more than a dozen years.

"That's the amazing thing when I walk into every season I will say something will happen this year that's never happened before," Harrison said.

He steps outside his comfort zone even further with the publication of his first book, "The Perfect Letter," today.

"I've never written a book so to be exposed in that way is exciting for me because it's something I've never done and I'll be judged in a completely different way," Harrison said.

His novel is fictional, but the love triangle at its heart will be very familiar to fans of his TV show.

"There's this guy and he's perfect on paper. Great resume. Even your friends love him, and you'd be a fool not to love this guy, but there's always this other guy, and he's the one you think of when you wake up and when you go to bed at night," he explained.

Harrison set his book in Texas, which is where he is from.

"You know I don't know (what happened to the accent). It comes back after a few beverages or talking to my brother," Harrison joked.

It's easy to see why Chris has built a lucrative career out of being an approachable every-man.

"I'll be sitting at an airport and some woman will come in there and start talking about her sex life. And, just tell me blahh, everything. Part of that scares me, but I love the fact that people feel they can come talk to me," he said.

It's those people that Harrison hopes to reach with his new book.

"It's not the Great American Novel. It is a book that you know when you're at the beach, you pick it up and read it and you'll escape and take you away from your crazy life," he said.

If you're going to be in and around Staten Island on Tuesday evening you can come out and meet Chris Harrison and talk to him about "The Perfect Letter" and "The Bachelorette". He'll be at the Barnes & Noble at 2245 Richmond Avenue starting at 7:00 p.m.
