Red dress fashion show for a good cause
Amy Freeze has the story of the Go Red for Women fashion show, to spotlight the issue of women's heart health.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- She 'rocked it' on Dancing With The Stars, winning over legions of fans.

And Thursday night, Zendaya Coleman will rock the runway for a good cause, strutting her stuff for the 'Go Red for Women' red dress fashion show at Lincoln Center.

The color red grabs attention, even in Times Square.

From billboards to scarves, red is putting the spotlight on heart health, but now the stories behind the color are set to take center stage.

"It's a beautiful dress, and as you will notice, it's short in the front so I don't trip," Zendaya said.

Zendaya will wear a Rubin Singer red dress. Disney's Shake it Up star and DWTS runner up says this show is about more than runway.

"I think it's really genius when you kind of bring two worlds together and make awareness in a fun, fashionable way," she said.

Every dress modeled - has a personal heartfelt story behind it. For Zendaya, heart disease goes back three generations. "My grandma lost her great grandfather to a heart attack, her father to a heart attack and her brother to a heart attack, generations after generations, after generations," she said.

Heart doctor Johnny lee says stopping the disease is what the red dress campaign is all about.

"It is very important that tonight's fashion show is focusing on the people walking on the runway, wearing the red dress, and it's not just a fashion show. It's a statement, a very powerful statement," said Dr. Lee.

He's seen the color red shine a light on women's health.

"That's the biggest message always for go red, is that women do so much, they take care of so many people in so many ways that they're always the last ones sometimes to take care of themselves. That red dress is a powerful statement," Dr. Lee said.

The live stream global charity fashion show is part of the Go Red for Women campaign, which has raised $50 million since 2004.
