Picking the perfect sunglasses
Opthalmologist Dr. Annie Negrin joined us with some tips on picking the right sunglasses.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The summer is here and the sun is shining brightly.

When it comes to shielding our eyes, you want to do it in style.

And the perfect pair of sunglasses doesn't have to break the bank.

Dr. Annie Negrin, an opthalmologist from Westchester, joined us on Eyewitness News Sunday Morning for some tips.

**Sunglasses are important! UV exposure is linked to several serious eye conditions:

Age related macular degeneration (#1 cause of blindness in the US), ocular melanomas

**Like sunscreen, sunglasses should be worn whenever you're outdoors, year round.

**Protect your eyes year round (even cloudy days, cold winter days)

**Sunglasses are a fun way to accessorize but AlSO protect your eyesight!

**Look for "99% or 100% UVA/UVB" sticker or "400" sticker. Drugstore frames that have this offer just as much protection as luxury brands. Certain luxury brands have sold sunglasses that don't offer UV protection!

*Don't leave sunglasses in the car in summer.... Heat warps the frames!

*When you remove sunglasses from your face use both hands on each side.... If you always use one hand to pull them off it leads to bending of the arms of the frames which can make a poor fit, leaves marks on your nose, or falls off easily.

*For the same reason try not to use your sunglasses as headband and wear them on top of your head.... We all love the look but it will distort them over time!

**Sunglasses are where FUN meets FUNCTION!

**You DON'T have to SPEND A LOT on sunglasses! Inexpensive drugstore brands are JUST AS GOOD as high-end ones that would cost you upwards of $400!

There is a wide range of prices:

CVS Panama Jack's $19.99 JUST AS PROTECTIVE as David Yurman $450

Warby Parkers - 3 pairs - all $95

Chanel $350

Walmart Panama Jack's $9.99

Tiffany - $250

Oakley running glasses $160

Jessica Simpson - $40
