Halloween costume trends

NEW YORK (WABC) -- With Halloween only a few weeks away, there is not much time left to get a costume before having to figure out a last-minute ensemble. But New York's top go-to loctations are ready with all sorts of get-ups, from celebrity-inspired costumes to popular movie characters.

If you still have no inspiration, not to worry. On Pinterest, there are more than 5 million costume pins, and dominating those are group costumes.

Taylor Swift's "Girl Gang" is all the rage, and so are all of the feelings from Disney's "Inside Out" movie.

Star Wars is also expected to be a monster trend. The highly anticipated film is not even out yet, but Ricky's already has shelves filled with Luke Skywalkers, Darth Vaders and lightsabers galore.

Richard Parrot, president of the New York stores, says if the packaged costume is not for you, then there is another trend.

"Now it's more about, 'I really just want to look good, like wow, that looks great,'" he said.

Like his tailored bright orange suit, for instance.

"I could grab a black mask and be a jack-o-lantern," he said. "I've gotten at least 20 compliments walking down the street of Manhattan."

Nina Santana, of Brooklyn, says for her, there are no rules.

"I don't like to do the traditional, oh this costume's nice, and everyone wears the same thing," Santana said. "I like to be completely different, add my own touches and spice and colorfulness to it."

And she's colorful - in a gory way - creating her own horrifying renditions of classic costumes year after year.

"Last year I was the devil, but it wasn't your typical devil," she said. "I had horns coming out of my head. It was a little crazy, kids were scared, and as long as the kids were scared, I was happy."

Whatever you choose - scary or not scary - just have fun.
