It's the first Monday in May, and that means it's time for the unofficial Super Bowl of fashion: the Met Gala.

Stars will gather in New York City on Monday night for the annual benefit, which raises money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The A-lister event also marks the opening of the museum's spring exhibition, this year called "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology."

The full guest list is kept a secret ahead of the event, but Scandal star Kerry Washington, who sported a beautiful pink ball gown last year, is among the known guests.

"This night is really about fashion as art and celebrating the Met, and celebrating the history of great fashion," she told Good Morning America on Monday.

In case you were wondering what Washington will be wearing, though, she wouldn't spoil that secret ahead of the gala.

Take a look at some of the best (and craziest!) fashion throughout the years in the gallery above.
