Get you sneakers cleaned at this new pop up shop

UNION SQUARE, Manhattan (WABC) -- Keeping your kicks clean can be an undertaking, and a new pop-up shop in New York City is dedicated to make sure your sneakers are sparkling.

Jason Markk is certainly a bit of a sneaker head, and he's a clean freak.

"Sneakers have always been a passion of mine since I was a little kid," he said. "I'm definitely a little OCD, always cleaning, whether it's my house or my car or my sneakers."

So it's fitting that he has a company devoted to clean sneakers. 10 years ago, he launched a line of products, and now he has a store in Los Angeles and the pop up shop inside the Foot Action store in Union Square.

"We really had to bring our A game and make sure we're on point, because New York doesn't play with their sneakers," he said.

So come in with your shoes and pick a service. The technicians will guide you. There's a free quick clean offered, but generally, services require at least two hours. The most deluxe option is the purple label detail.

"It's everything from the undersole to the sock liner to the laces to the tongue," he said. "We get into every little groove."

And when you're spending several hundred dollars on a pair, or you're a collector, it's a small investment. Markk and his crew can clean suede, nubuck, leather, cotton mesh and flyknit, and rarely will they turn away a pair.

But there's plenty you can do along the way.

"If you just take the time to maintain them and clean them up, it makes a huge difference," he said.

The pop-up store is only open through Thursday, but Markk hopes to open a flagship in New York City by the end of the year.
