Local skin care company inspired by 'Brooklyn Flavors'
Lauren Glassberg has the story of Sophia Sylvester, who chose the name of her company because everything she makes is inspired by Brooklyn and its neighborhoods.

BROOKLYN (WABC) -- One local skin care company is growing, and you don't have to look past the bottle to see where they're from.

Sophia Sylvester started making skin products for her children, who were dealing with dry skin. They worked out so well, she started selling them online and then created Brooklyn Flavors.

Sylvester chose the name of the business because everything she makes is inspired by Brooklyn and its neighborhoods.

"Brooklyn is everything now," Sylvester said. "People never knew good things come out of Brooklyn, but now it does."

Red Hook was her first inspiration.

"I wanted to take people to the happy place in Red Hook," Sylvester said.

There are 15 different scents, including a brownstone scent and Church Avenue scent.

The Prospect Heights scent is infused with cherries and jasmine, a nod to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Sylvester's customers aren't just from Brooklyn, and she has plans to expand.

"I wouldn't mind expanding to Harlem, but right now it's all about Brooklyn," Sylvester said.

Products from Brooklyn Flavors start at $7 and go up to $39.
