CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Officers rescued a kayaker Saturday morning off Coney Island Beach.

Just before 10 a.m., the New York City Police Department responded to a 911 call about a man in a sinking kayak.

A 33-year-old man was found in his beige kayak, about a mile from the shoreline near the Parachute Jump. An aviation unit deployed two scuba divers who helped the victim onto an NYPD boat.

The kayak also was retrieved. The victim refused medical attention.

There is still no word on why the kayak was on the water to begin with.
