Man charged with vandalizing Christopher Columbus statue in Yonkers park

YONKERS, Westchester County (WABC) -- A man is under arrest in Westchester County, accused of vandalizing a statue of Christopher Columbus.

The bust of Columbus was discovered missing from its pedestal in Columbus Park in Yonkers last month.

It was later found damaged.

27-year-old Emmanuel Santiago Batista is charged with criminal mischief.

Police say he damaged the bust by striking it with a baseball bat.
