TOMS RIVER, New Jersey (WABC) -- One suspect was injured in a police-involved shooting in Toms River late Thursday.

At 11:32 p.m., officers approached a suspicious vehicle near the corner of Cedar Drive and Haines Drive in Toms River. The 29-year-old Toms River man inside suddenly left the vehicle and pulled out a gun, according to police.

The man was shot, then fled into the Toms River by jumping over a cement bulkhead at the dead end of the street.

The New Jersey State Police and Ocean County law enforcement searched for him. The man was found later and hospitalized.

The severity of the injuries was not known.

Three officers involved in the shooting were being checked out, but were uninjured.

An investigation will be led by the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.
