Some LIRR service suspended after train hits car

PINELAWN, Long Island (WABC) -- LIRR Service has been restored again on the Ronkonkoma Branch in both directions between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale.

According to the LIRR, a train became disabled after striking an unauthorized vehicle on the tracks east of Pinelawn Station.

After the scene was cleared, service was briefly restored, but then suspended again as LIRR crews examined the third rail for damage.

LIRR was advising customers to expect delays up to two hours.
