Apparent squatter found dead in fire at Bronx vacant building

KINGSBRIDGE, Bronx (WABC) -- An apparent squatter was found in a Bronx building fire Wednesday night.

Around 10 p.m., police responded to a two-alarm fire at 215 West Kingsbridge Road, a vacant building in the Kingsbridge section.

The FDNY had put out the fire and found an unidentified person unconscious on the second floor.

The person, an apparent squatter, was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was badly burned and unidentified.

Two firefighters were injured fighting the fire.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the second fatal fire in a vacant home in the Bronx this week. On Tuesday morning, another unidentified person died in a fire in an unoccupied home.
