Police in Queens have taken a man into custody who they say was caught on camera trying to lure a young girl away.

It happened on Friday around 7:40 a.m. on 81 Street in Jackson Heights.

Police say a 10-year-old girl was walking when she spotted a man on the other side of the street and he motioned for her to come to him.

She ignored him and continued walking, but then she noticed the man cross the street.

The suspect then allegedly continued to follow her and reached his hand out to her.

The girl ran from the man and yelled for help. A nearby crossing guard confronted the suspect at 37 Avenue, and he ran off.

Police took the man into custody Friday night. Charges against the suspect are pending.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
