JACKSON HEIGHTS, Queens (WABC) -- Police have arrested a suspect in an attempted luring incident in Jackson Heights on Friday.

Jaminton Carela, 29, of Queens, has been charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child.

Around 7:40 a.m. on Friday, a 10-year-old girl was walking along 81st Street in Jackson Heights when a man walking on the opposite side of the street saw the victim and motioned for her to come to him.

She ignored him and continued walking on 81st Street, according to the New York City Police Department. The suspect crossed the street and continued to follow her.

Police said he reached his hand out to her, then the victim ran and yelled for help.

A nearby school crossing guard responded and confronted the suspect at 37th Avenue, causing him to flee.
