JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- Detectives are investigating after a woman was found dead inside a Jersey City home. Neighbors say the victim is an elderly woman, but police are still trying to piece together her mysterious death.

The woman lived on Lexington Ave. by Kennedy Boulevard. Police were called to the house on Sunday morning, but by Sunday night, there were still no answers.

Church friends tell Eyewitness News they became worried when the woman did not show up for morning mass. She was part of the ministry team at St. Aloysius Church. Church members even drove by the house to see if she needed a ride - never did they imagine that she died.

Fellow church members describe the victim as a devout Catholic, a religious woman and a friendly neighbor.

"She's my sister in Christ, and she was a member in almost all of the groups that we have at church," said Louisa Brito.

Prosecutors still have not released information on how the woman died.
