Oscars preview: Best Actor nominees
Sandy Kenyon previews the Best Actor category in Sunday night's Oscars.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- As the countdown continues to Oscar Sunday, we're taking a closer look at the nominees, specifically the men up for Best Actor.

Nearly all have won an Oscar or have been nominated before.

But many eyes are on Leonardo DiCaprio, and whether the 5-time acting nominee will finally take home the gold statue.

They are Hollywood's leading men, competing for Oscar gold.

"It's such an extraordinary ride," said nominee Eddie Redmayne.

This year's Best Actor nominees include:

Bryan Cranston, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Fassbender, and Eddie Redmayne.

Fresh off his win last year, Damon, starring in "The Martian", is also an Osar winner, taking home 1998's Best Original Screenplay, alongside friend Ben Affleck.

"18 years later I think it's, yeah this is great.. and I'm going to smell the roses," said Damon.

This is Fassbender's second nomination, playing the role of "Steve Jobs".

And "Trumbo"'s Bryan Cranston is up for his first Oscar ever.

"I'm delirious about it, I'm really happy about it," said Cranston.

But this year's favorite is DiCaprio, in the brutal drama "The Revenant".

"It's us immersed in this world. It's very rewarding," said DiCaprio.

"Leo is one of those stars who seems to be nominated every single year and shockingly has never won," said ABC News Digital Entertainment Editor Lesley Messer.

DiCaprio was nominated in 1994 for "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". Then "The Aviator", "Blood Diamond", and "The Wolf of Wall Street". But no win.

"That's going to end this year. This is his year," said Messer.

In fact, DiCaprio has already won countless awards for "The Revenant", including a Golden Globe and SAG Award.
