Volunteer wrestling coach accused of sexually assaulting juvenile

CLARKSTOWN, NY (WABC) -- An 18-year-old volunteer wrestling coach who worked in three counties in New Jersey and New York City's northern suburbs is under arrest, accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile.

Clarkstown police have charged Marcus Stroud, of Nyack, with felony criminal sex act, several misdemeanors and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say the suspect had lured the victim to engage in sexual acts through the use of Snapchat and other social media outlets.

Stroud was placed under arrest and processed at police headquarters after the parents of the victim reported the incident.

The investigation revealed that Stroud had become acquainted with the victim through a wrestling program.

Authorities say Stroud has been involved in such programs in Rockland, Westchester and Bergen counties, serving as a volunteer coach.

The initial social media contact between Stroud and the victim allegedly began in December 2015, and detectives are investigating if there could be other victims.

Clarkstown police are asking parents who have children in programs involving the suspect to engage in dialogue with their children to be certain they did not fall victim to similar crimes.

Bail was set at $100,000, and Stroud was transported to the Rockland County Jail.
