MIDTOWN MANHATTAN (WABC) -- A 77-year old pedestrian was struck and killed by a livery cab in Manhattan Monday morning.
The woman, identified as Carol Dauplaise, was struck at Madison Avenue and East 36th Street in Murray Hill just before 9 a.m.
Police arrived to find her unconscious and unresponsive in the roadway.
A number of people rushed to the scene to flip the car and try to help the woman, but she was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.
The driver of the cab, 49-year-old Buddhi Gurung, had made a left onto East 36th street from northbound Madison and remained at the scene.
Pursuant to the investigation, he was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
Madison Avenue was closed between East 34th and East 37th Streets.
