Search on for rapist in Jersey City
Rob Nelson reports on the search for a suspect in the rape of a woman at her Jersey City home.

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police are searching for the suspect who raped a woman at her Jersey City home.

Officers responded to a report of a woman screaming for help at about 3:20 a.m. on Feb. 29th.

They located the victim who reported that she was physically and sexually assaulted at her Pavonia Avenue residence near William Dickinson High School, authorities say.

She described the suspect as possibly being a Hispanic male who was wearing a black jacket and gloves, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor.

After canvassing surveillance footage, police observed a person of interest fitting the description who was seen putting gloves on and then checking door knobs of residences in the area.

He was also observed entering the building where the sexual assault occurred and exiting prior to the woman leaving the building screaming for help.

The Special Victims Unit of the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office is investigating.

"This was recent and particularly brutal and we're concerned about this individual still being out on the street without first having turned himself in to speak with us," said Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
