WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan (WABC) -- A man is in critical but stable condition after he was stabbed in Washington Heights early Sunday morning. The bloody crime scene stretches along Audubon Avenue from 179th Street to nearly 180th Street.

A fight broke out inside a bodega around 1:30 Sunday morning. When things went south, it is still not clear over what, the owner rushed and ducked behind the counter. In a split second, he grabbed a phone to call 911. A man in a black hoodie got into a fight with a woman, pushing and shoving her. A second bald man then appears to the man in the hoodie, and throws a punch at the pair. He then starts ransacking the shop, pulling down shelves and pushing racks of merchandise towards the victims.

The man then took off his hood, and heated words were exchanged. At one point, another man handed the attacker an unidentified object, which he then throws at the victims.

The suspect, who was furious, reaches behind a wooden door, and headed into the kitchen area. When he comes out, he charges at the victims with a huge knife.

Police say one victim ran north, but the suspect caught him near 180th Street and stabbed him in the back with a huge knife.

Two victims were taken to the hospital, if is not clear if the woman inside the store was that second person.

Police are still trying to determine what sparked the brawl.
