NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- A police pursuit ended in a crash in New Jersey Tuesday morning, and there were two small children riding inside the car during the chase.
Newark police say they were following a robbery suspect who crashed near the East Orange border around 8:30 a.m.
A man and two women, one of whom is pregnant, were taken into custody, and two children ages 1 and 3 were also found inside the vehicle. One of the women is believed to have been driving.
Authorities say the male victim of the robbery had gone into the Newark Police Precinct on South Orange Avenue to report the incident, giving a description of the vehicle that was spotted by officers who began the pursuit.
The children did not appear to be injured.
Police say the robbery came after a car accident, when the victim and the suspects got into a verbal dispute following the crash. Authorities say the male suspect assaulted the victim and stole his cell phone before they got back into their vehicle and fled the scene.
