HOUSTON -- Two kids from Nebraska are talking about their decision to call 911 to report their own dad, saying he was driving drunk with them inside the car.

Twelve- and 14-year-old Ethan and Mackenzie Behrens were heading off on vacation with their dad behind the wheel. They say he was drunk and swerving. After numerous close calls and a near head-on collision, they decided to text 9-1-1 for help.

"I was like, 'I can drive better than this.' He said, 'Then fine I can pull over and you can drive.' And I said, 'I'm not legal if I was legal I would,'" Mackenzie Behrens said.

"He's like, 'I'm not drunk,' and then he kept on driving, and that's when the point where I got really, really scared and I just started praying a lot," Ethan Behrens said. "And he looked back at us and said, 'You've been texting the cops?' And I was like, 'Yea I thought I was going to die.'"

The kids say this wasn't the first time they've been in that situation with him.

Their father, Jason Behrens, allegedly blew nearly three times the legal limit. He's now charged with DUI and two counts of driving drunk with minors in the vehicle.
