FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WABC) -- Two 13-year-old girls remain hospitalized after they struck a yacht while tubing on Long Island Sound Sunday, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

Authorities said the girls were riding a two-person tube being pulled by a motorboat off Jennings Beach when they struck the side of the yacht and were thrown into the water.

People aboard the yacht then jumped into the water to rescue the girls and bring them onto the yacht.

The girls were unconscious at the time. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m.

Authorities arrived at the yacht and stabilized the girls, who were then transported to South Benson Marina. From there, medical personnel transported them to Bridgeport Hospital. Police said both girls are in stable condition.

Connecticut and Fairfield police are investigating the incident.
