A.J. Ross has details on the theft of a puppy from a pet store in the Bronx.

EAST TREMONT, Bronx (WABC) -- Police are looking for a suspect in the theft of a valuable tea cup dog from a shop in the Bronx.

Around 1:30 p.m. May 4, the suspect walked in pretending to be a vendor and took a black and brown Tea Cup Yorkie puppy from a window at R and K Dogs Grooming on East Tremont Avenue, according to the NYPD, and it was all caught on camera.

The adorable two-month-old Yorkie caught the attention of many here along East Tremont Avenue until it was stolen just a day before it was to be sold to a loving family.

"It happened so quick, like blinked my eye it happened, I heard I'm like what so I ran back. It was crazy," said pet shop worker Chrishelle Glover.

She says she spoke face to face with the suspect seen in store surveillance video. She says he first tried to sell her fish tank supplies, but when she turned him down he lingered for a bit and then snatched the pup from the front display case.

"That's crazy, a lot of people do it at different places," she said. "You just gotta be aware of it. I wasn't aware, I guess I wasn't paying attention."

"When I did look at the video I couldn't really believe how fast this guy worked, how he planned the whole thing so quick even with the cameras here," said the pet shop owner, Carlos Acosta.

Acosta says the puppy was worth $1500 but he's now more concerned about the dog's well being.

"It's not about losing the money, it's about the dog," he said. "How is the dog at the moment you know, is the dog being well treated, is it eating ,all these things are concerning."

The pup is microchipped and police are now hoping someone will recognize the man shown in the video and give them a call.

"I just hope these kind of people really think about what they're doing and try to do something better for their self," said Acosta.

The individual is described as a Hispanic man, 5 feet 8 inches and 220 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweater, a dark colored baseball cap, light blue jeans and tan work boots.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
