A rodeo rider was killed in New Jersey.

WOODSTOWN, N.J. -- New Jersey State Police say a teenage rider taking part in the Cowtown Rodeo has died from injuries he received in an accident.

Rodeo officials identify the victim as Coy Lutz.

Authorities say the bareback rider was trampled during his performance on Saturday night in Woodstown, Salem County.

Action News is told Lutz, 19, was knocked off the horse. The horse then kicked Lutz.

The teen from Hopeland, Pa. was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Cowtown Rodeo and The Harris Family extend our heartfelt and sincere condolences to the Lutz Family for the tragic loss of their son, Coy," the Cowtown Rodeo posted on Facebook.

Saturday was the opening night of the rodeo.
