Puppy born without pads on hind legs to get new limbs

WINCHESTER, Va. -- A puppy in Virginia will get a much-needed surgery and new limbs thanks to some generous donations.

Hope, a 10-week-old German shepherd, was born without fully-formed paws on her hind legs. It's causing her whole body to be off-balance, which Alicia Aston of Dakota's Dream Animal Rescue said could cause long-term damage to her spine, WHAG reports.

"Even though she's missing the one paw and only has part of the other one, she plays with the other dogs and you can't even tell," said Greg Vorhees, Hope's foster parent.

The community in Winchester, Va., raised more than $5,000 to help pay for her prosthetics. The procedure itself could cost up to $10,000.

"Hopefully as she changes out her prosthetics, maybe we can donate them to someone else that might need them," said Alicia Aston, Dakota's Dream Animal Rescue.

Hope's foster parents aim to eventually train her to become a therapy dog.
