BROWNSVILLE, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A 22-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in the stomach while walking her young son in a stroller in Brooklyn early Tuesday. Several hours later, police made an arrest.

20-year-old Shenia C. Williams of Brooklyn is facing charges of 2nd degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The woman was attacked in front of a home on Lott Avenue between Bristol and Chester streets in Brownsville around 12:45 a.m.

Authorities say 22-year-old Joanna Beauzier was pushing her 9-month-old son in the stroller when one or more women confronted her, and the dispute led to her being stabbed in the chest.

"Of course we're devastated," stepfather Donelle Harrison said. "The whole family is devastated. My wife, her mother, everyone is absolutely devastated."

Family and friends alike are struggling to make sense of the brutal murder.

"Shocking to know you get up in the morning and see blood across the street," neighbor Lola Bishop said.

The incident happened right in front of the home where her son's father reportedly lives. In the hours after the stabbing, police took three people from that house for questioning as they try to find the person responsible.

"I believe people in the neighborhood know," Harrison said. "They might know who done it. I do believe they know. Especially since it may have been an ongoing thing. People might not want to talk. People are not going to talk. But we believe people do know."

The child was unharmed by the suspect or suspects, who fled the scene. Officers found the victim on the ground, with the child in the stroller. Beauzier was pronounced dead a short time later.

Williams' connection to the victim is not yet known. There is also no word on a motive just yet.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
