Elderly man punched in the head in Carl Schurz Park
Surveillance video from the Upper East Side.

UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- An elderly man was punched in the head while walking in Carl Schurz Park in broad daylight.

It happened on Tuesday at 3 p.m. inside the park near East 90th Street and East End Avenue on the Upper East Side.

The suspect approached the 85-year-old man from behind and punched him in the side of the head.

The victim fell to the ground and suffered cuts to his head and above his eye.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition.

The suspect ran away southbound on the promenade.

The suspect is described as a man in his 40's, with a black backpack; last seen wearing a black coat, blue jeans, and a red knit cap.
