NEW YORK --Hosted at the iconic "Tavern on the Green" in Central Park, the TCS New York City Marathon's traditional "Carb-Fest" will feature a delicious apple dessert. Thanks to the NY Apple Growers, we'll share the recipe of the warm Golden Delicious Apple Crisp on our half-hour special "Countdown to the Starting Line," on Saturday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m.

10 ea Golden Delicious Apples, peeled, cut in " dice
3 oz Butter
2 oz Sugar
2 oz Brown Sugar
2 oz Honey
1 Grated Zest from 1 Lemon
8 oz Apple Cider
1 Tbls Corn Starch
3 oz Coconut Flakes, unsweetened
2 oz Butter, cubed, room temperature
3 oz Sugar
3 oz Cake Flour
1 oz Dark Rum
Vanilla Ice Cream, as much as you want...
Preheat oven to 350 f, set up a center rack
For the Filling:
-In a large sauté pan over high heat, melt the butter, add the diced apples and cook until the apples begin to take on some color.
-Sprinkle the lemon zest, sugar & brown sugar over the apples, continue sautéing until the apples start to get soft and golden brown.
-Drizzle the honey over the apples and continue cooking for 2 more minutes to meld the flavors.
-Mix the corn starch into the apple cider, add it to the apple mixture. Let it come to a boil and thicken slightly. Place the apple mixture in a 2 quart casserole.
-For the Streusel - combine all the ingredients, then using your fingers, smear all the ingredients together with the butter.
-Spread this mixture over the surface of the apple mixture.
-Bake until the top is golden brown $ the apple mixture is bubbling out around the sides.
-Remove from the over, let cool slightly, 10 minutes.
-Serve a spoonful on a warm plate with a scoop or two of Vanilla ice cream.
