PORT RICHMOND -- A man is hospitalized after firefighters rescued him from a trash truck in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia.

Crews arrived at the Speedway gas station at Castor and Aramingo avenues at 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Officials tell sister station WPVI in Philadelphia that it appears the man was in a dumpster when the dumpster was lifted by mechanical arms and emptied into the truck.

They say the truck's operators heard the man and called 911.

Firefighters removed the man and he was taken to an area hospital.

There was no immediate word on his condition.
