Islandia veteran's monument vandalized, medallion stolen

Police are looking for someone who vandalized the veteran's monument in Islandia on Long Island.

ISLANDIA, Long Island (WABC) -- Police are looking for a suspect in the theft of a medallion from a veteran's monument on Long Island.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, on Jan. 16, a Marine Corps medallion was pried off of the New War Veterans Memorial monument at Nichols Road and Johnson Avenue in Islandia.

The medallion is 24 inches round, made of aluminum alloy and has the Marine Corps emblem engraved on it.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
