HAMILTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police are investigating after a woman was found fatally stabbed Saturday morning.

The woman, identified as Eloise Liz, 48, of Hamilton Heights, was found around 4 a.m. in an apartment on West 153 Street in Hamilton Heights.

Cries for help could be heard all over the building throughout the night.

"I was sleeping, and about three in the morning, I heard anger voices, arguments going on and I didn't think anything of it. I should've called 911, I should've done something," said Yvette Cruz.

The cries did lead to someone calling 911, but it wasn't until later in the morning that the people who live in the Hamilton Heights apartment building realized the horrors behind the cries for help.

"When I get up to go to work, I see the blood on the floor," added William Gonzalez.

Police arrived to find Liz stabbed multiple times. EMS crews arrived, pronouncing her dead.

Liz was a woman who many in this building tell Eyewitness News that they knew - someone who was a friend to many. News of her death left many in tears.

"She loved dogs, and she's a good lady. She's Cuban. She would say hi, you would feel welcome around her," said Nelson Lopez.

This is the second time recently people in the Hamilton Heights building have awoken to crime tape. Less than two months ago, a mother and her four-year-old son were killed inside one of the apartments. The child's father was later arrested after he was seen on camera inside. Those cameras give people who live in the building hope that Liz's killer will soon be found.

"They will find out there is cameras in this building everywhere, there is no way you can go in that building without being seen, that's what happened to that other person," Lopez adds.

For now, residents are just waiting for answers.

"I wish I would've got up and did something, because I could've probably saved her live, I should've called," Cruz says.

Liz was a mother with adult children. Her neighbors says she was living alone from what they knew.

Police have not made any arrests.
